About Stanley Bridge Harbour Authority

The Harbour Authority of Stanley Bridge is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to ensure the long-term life and operation of the Stanley Bridge Harbour. The lands are federally owned and managed by the Harbour Authority under an operating lease with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Formed in 1996, the Harbour Authority is responsible for the management of the harbour and for maintaining safe and acceptable facilities for its users. The organization is governed by a nine-member volunteer board of directors.

With support from ACOA and the Provincial Government, the Harbour Authority engaged in a consulting exercise to outline a plan for the landside development at the Harbour, and address the communities’ list of priorities. After consultations and budget considerations, a project description was developed. The expansion of the harbour, undertaken in 2016 and 2017 has been under planning and consideration for well over a decade.

The Harbour was expanded in 2016/17 to better accommodate recreational boaters and tourists, establishing a new land-base, new retail space and boardwalks, experiential tourism outlets, new washrooms, lockers and shower facilities, improving electrical and wastewater services, a new parking area for visitors, and improving access and safety to and from the harbour. These improvements were largely complete by the end of June, 2017.

As part of the overall strategic plan, construction of a new breakwater was completed in 2016 by Birch Hill Construction of Moncton, NB (birchhillconstruction.com) under a tender by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

The marina now has approx. 65 slips available to recreational boaters – this number remains dynamic as slip spacing is modified and new slips are added or removed.

We had some major damages as a result of the Fiona Hurricane in Sept. 2022. Improvements are continuing through 2023, and replacement/repair of docks, including electrical and water service is a large project. Patience is a virture, but we anticipate docks in for the season, although utilities may be delayed.
